Robin Thomas | February 22nd, 2021 | edb to pst, exchange 2010, pst

“New-MailboxExportRequest” cmdlet can be used in Exchange PowerShell to export mailbox to PST from Exchange 2010. It helps in exporting archived or online mailboxes to Outlook PST file while excluding duplicate components to avoid replication of mailbox data.

While creating requests for exporting mailboxes, users can specify all the attributes such as the folders that need to be imported along with those that are to be excluded; if the folders existing in Dumpster have to be imported or not, etc.

Manual Solution To Export Mailbox to PST from Exchange 2010

Prior to getting started with the export process, there are some pre-requisites that need to be fulfilled. They are:

  • Ensure that MS Outlook (64 bit) is installed on Exchange 2010 Server.
  • It is required to assign permissions to the users or the group (that are performing the task) for initializing the ‘Import\ Export’ management role by executing the following command.

import-export-command-1

  • Create a folder on the machine where Exchange mailboxes have to be imported and assign appropriate authorities\ permissions.

Afterward, execute the following commands to export Exchange mailbox to PST Exchange 2010 as per requirements:

Situation 1: To export single user mailbox where User Mailbox name is ‘Adam’ and the location path of exporting folders is “C:\Mailbox PST”:

export-command-3

Situation 2: For exporting entire mailboxes from Exchange Server where Server name is ‘Server A1’:

export-command-4

Situation 3: For exporting all existing mailboxes from the database where DB name is ‘DB Group’ to PST file:

export-command-5

Therefore, by following the above-mentioned commands, you can export mailbox to PST from Exchange 2010, if you need to export a single mailbox, multiple mailboxes, or all existing mailboxes.

Finally, if you are using a cmdlet for an import \ export mailbox, then there are some other commands as well that can be followed to perform related functions during the migration operation.

These commands are mentioned in the following section:

1) “Get-MailboxExportRequest”: To check the detailed current status of the existing export request, this cmdlet can be used.
2) “Get-MailboxExportRequestStatistics”: Used to obtain information about the ongoing or the current export function.
3) “Remove-MailboxExportRequest”: This cmdlet can be used to remove or eliminate an export request that is already been completed or currently in process.

Note: Requests that reached the ‘completed’ status is not removed automatically and needs removal through Exchange Administrator. Also, removing the completed requests will not affect the exported data.

4) “Resume-MailboxExportRequest”: This command is used to initialize or resume the hangover or suspended mailbox export request.
5) “Suspend-MailboxExportRequest”: Existing export request can be suspended by using this command.
6) “Set-MailboxExportRequest”: This command can be used for changing the settings of an existing request.

Note: All the above mentioned commands must be executed before mailbox request reaches the ‘completed’ status.
